The Kills @ V Festival Sydney

I couldn't find a better word to try to describe this act, than just.. fuck.
Fuck, one for Alison and another for Jamie.

The impeccably dressed Brits took to the tiny V Fest stage and just fucking tore it apart.
I've been to a lot of festivals, seen a lot of international guests do the same boring thing, however The Kills just brought sex. It's been sometime since I've seen sex on stage, sans Sex On Fire, if you were making that joke, just, well .. go die? Please? Baby? Okay.

Alison, dressed in skinny jeans, a tattered Ksubi tee and leopard print jacket seems anxious as she paces round the small stage, cigarette continuously lit. She sings perfectly on cue and presses her tiny yet intimidating frame up against the speaker to inhale deeply and perfectly in time between vocals.

The U.K duo opened with their leading single from 'Midnight Boom' (their most successful in Australia to date) 'U R A Fever' and the crowd are in awe. The trendy two take turns in lyrics, perfectly on time, perfectly in tempo and all I could hear is people describing the rapes they planned to 'do over' on the two when the song wrapped.

You can't take your eyes off of Alison as she paces but you can just hear Jamie's guitaring consistency whist the drum machine goes and it's like some work of art.

The Kills performed most of the tracks from 'Midnight Boom' and hits like 'Kissy Kissy', they don't bullshit you between songs and the sound is better further back I soon discover.

Highlight of the set, 'Black Balloon' as day day turned into dusk this was the perfect track for me to forget another day in the fucking sun. I hate the fucking sun.

Closing with 'Cheap and Cheerful' you can hear all the girls screaming the words they know and i still want to have sexy with Alison. Maybe Jamie.. Maybe both?

Low light? I don't have sideshow tickets. Fudge.

Time has gotten by on alibis and wine

So hello boys, and girls,

It's your crazy, lazy blogger here, and I come bearing new ideas and a new approach.

I've been the busiest bee you can imagine, having just recently moved to the city you can imagine the kind of social realms I've been exposed to and obviously I've been enjoying them thoroughly. This has left my general health and blogging time in shambles - How rock 'n roll you say? eh.
"Just lying in a bar with my drip feed on
Talking to my girlfriend just waiting for something to happen"..
Literally, these days.

So my apologies kitty cats, but always one for a side of redemption and revenge, I'll be back very shortly with a refreshed sense of direction. I've always been a firm supporter of the Sydney underground but I must start listening to to new beats, even if I hate it, I suppose I can rant to you about that yeah? Though I will still continue to support the indie kids no doubt, just try and expand my musical horizons..

Not only that, I will be blogging from backstage at the MTV Awards, so I'll be rubbing VIP passes with the big kids (ie. The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs) so no doubt I will have a story or two for y'all.

This might just be a big year for us yeah?

The only time I will listen to GaGa or Mayer.

CAMERAS AT V? Yes Please.

Despite the notable handicap of having yet to play in a garage as such, the good judges of the Garage 2 V competition (whereby a lucky entrant will be selected to play at the V festival along side the Killers, Kaiser Chiefs et al) have overlooked this and selected CAMERAS as one of 4 bands to compete in an old fashioned 'vote off' for a spot in the final.

Now Cameras are the likes of Sydney's precious underground sound destined for musical goodness and I for one would 'shit a brick' at the thought of these guys at V.

Do a little for the little guys with the big sounds, have a listen to their vibes here - the thee piece have just launched new tracks 'Horizontal' and 'Vampires In Transit'.

It's like Chan Marshall and Johnny Greenwood got kind of high and locked them selves in a cabin with Thom Yorke acting as cabin curator for a weekend.

So what does one need to do to give soul a chance?

Please follow the link below to vote for CAMERAS to compete in the Garage 2 V final. Just say in 25 words or less why CAMERAS should win a slot in the national final and YOU COULD WIN 2 VIP TIX to V FEST, a Nokia 5800 mobile AND if you forward the band your confirmation email for voting to cameras.band@gmail.com, they lovely Cameras crew will send you one of their brand new tracks 'Horizontal' which they have just recorded! Click below to vote for Cameras:

P.S. A gig at Oxford Arts new Wednesday night of debauchery Yellow Brick Road has surfaced for March 18th.. If you're smart kids I'll see you there.. Cheap beers and Cameras yeah?..

P.P.S. You don't have to do the 25 words or less bit, only if you want to wins some bigs :)

Papa VS Pretty - Brand New Track

So you may remember back in the dizay' when this blog was born, one of the first entries was about the talented Sydney three-piece that is Papa VS Pretty.

The three young boys have become regulars on the local music scene, performing the summer festival trail and delivering wild live performances without fail to their growing supporters.

These cats as noted below are playing World Bar this Friday with fellow local artists Parades and as a treat have delivered me some brand new goods for your keen ears.

Here's a taste of the awesome to come, I hope you're in a very young Nick Cave kind of mood.

PAPA VS PRETTY - ARRESTEM

P.S Check the bands Myspace here for tour dates and to have a listen to the rest of Papa VS Pretty killer tracks.
